This Year's Theme: "The Water of Life" |
This year's focus will be on the legend "The Water of Life" which tells of a ailing king whose realm has turned lifeless and without direction. As with many of the ancient myths, the story depicts a hero's journey, sometimes described as an awakening that occurs after loss or crisis. From the inexperienced young man taking on life's challenges, or the older man dealing with divorce, job loss, or illness; we can all benefit from a story with elements that enable us to look at things in our lives that we wouldn't otherwise be able to see. Over the weekend we will use storytelling, ritual, and music to explore and share our individual journeys toward wholeness. Tom Harris is with us again to do story-telling and drumming joined by facilitators Wilson McCreary and Eric Diamond, both with many years' experience leading men's groups. We encourage men of all ages to attend. Young men between the ages of 13 and 21 receive a 50% discount on registration. See the registration page for information about scholarships. Bring your drums, musical instruments, poems and jokes. Mainly just bring yourself. See you in Mentone! - The AMC Planning Committee |
I need a connection to these men annually in the Mentone tradition. ~~ I came with my youngest son and watched him turn into a man! ~~ I was moved emotionally by all the men's stories. I now have 20+ men who I connect to that I didn't have 48 hours ago. Priceless! ~~ This gathering helped me grow spiritually and develop my connection to men who are different from me. ~~ The free flowing gathering allowed me to go to safe places I would not have considered before. ~~ The gathering gave me the gift of a heartfelt connection with other men—true brothers and true friends—I left the gathering with a feeling of deep power! ~~ I am 27, no kids, no wife, no direction, college done, money spent, see no future pay, and came full of questions. I was embraced and loved with touches, looks and respect. I figured out my answers for now. It was life altering for me. ~~ The gathering created space for men to open and be real with one another to grow into themselves. ~~ The peer leadership was great, from the teachers to the story. ~~ I didn't say much during the weekend. I never get a chance to be with men, I came away feeling stronger.~~ The gathering helps one take stock of providing good directions... |
